HOUSE PLANS AT LAST!

YES Ladies and Gentlemen...we are finally showing you what our house in Sointula will look like when it's done.  Jim came up with lots of ideas and eventually narrowed them down to this great house for two but room for more.  He designed it using Google Sketch Up and has become quite a pro at manipulating it in 3D too.  I'm so proud of him for embracing the design process and for being the conductor on this crazy train!

The whole house is 1325 sq. feet.  Pretty palatial compared to living on our wonderful Kelly Peterson 46' sailboat - home for 8 amazing years before settling in Sointula.

This is the main floor plan.  Basic box with a street side deck linking our driveway to our home.  The  modest deck on the waterside will take full advantage of the views of Broughton Strait and Port McNeill, which often shimmers at night - orange glows from distant street lights.

Below the deck will be our deer fenced garden so we can cultivate an assortment of berries, veggies, a peach tree and flowers to attract hummingbirds, butterflies and dragonflies.  Our home will be FULL of artistic creations including a closet created from an 850 year old cedar tree, warm wood flooring, an unusual colourful ceiling design (more on that another time), space for gatherings around the dining table or our blue Pacific Energy wood burning stove.

This is the view from 2nd Street.  Cedar shake shingle art, designed by Jim,
is featured on the street side, depicting kelp waving in the ebb tide.

You'll notice the two story design takes into consideration the 27 degree slope of our land.
So...there you have it.  As we publish this, we are days away from our green metal roof being installed over our currently very open space.  We're going to miss looking straight up at the sky, watching passing eagles directly above us, easily hearing the loons in the evening, looking up and feeling the mist on my face on a foggy morning or the heat of the mid day sun.   Once the roof is on then we'll have our front door, french doors, sliding doors and windows all added pretty quickly.  Then we'll work on making part of the lower floor liveable for the winter.

Progress!

Stay tuned for more shots as we move forward.

Until then...

Tricia and Jim Bowen
